School Innovation and Improvement Plan At-a-Glance

Background: The Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER III) is a federal grant which requires that spending be used in specific areas. Part of the Fairfax County Public Schools spending plan identifies funding to be used for Unfinished Learning and Student Academic and Social, Emotional, Mental Health (Wellness) Needs. Schools have been given funding allocations to support the academic and wellness needs of students. Schools are required to create plans in English Language Arts, Mathematics, and Wellness highlighting the strategies they will use to support these areas using their ESSER III funding. These strategies are shown below.
ESSER III English Language Arts Strategies Outcome: Ensure students are making sufficient progress to be on grade level in English Language Arts. Strategy 1 Leverage tier 1 core instruction for all students. Strategy 2 Small group instruction and intervention for tier 2 and 3 students in reading. Strategy 3 Increase the diversity and access to rich text for students to access during independent reading as well as during small group instruction.
ESSER III Mathematics Strategies Outcome: Ensure students are making sufficient progress to be on grade level in Mathematics. Strategy 1 Strengthen Number Sense in Tier 1 Instruction. Strategy 2 Small group instruction and intervention for tier 2 and 3 students in math.
ESSER III Wellness Strategies Outcome: Ensure students feel safe, included, and supported in the school environment.
Goal 1: Social Skills Development in Grades K-6 For additional information regarding this School Plan, please contact the school principal. Strategy 1 Strengthen Tier 1 Evidence- Based Strategies Targeting Social Skills. Strategy 2 Provide Tier 2 Student Support Targeting Social Skills. Strategy 3 Provide Tier 2 Support for before, during and/or after school opportunities for students that need extra support in social skill development.
Goal 2: Executive Functioning Skills in Grades 4-6 Strategy 1 Strengthen Tier 1 Evidence-Based Strategies. Strategy 2 Provide Tier 2 Small Group Support for students that need extra support in executive functioning development. Strategy 3 Provide Tier 3 support to our special education students with executive functioning needs. Strategy 4 Provide Opportunities for Family and Staff Engagement.
Background: All Fairfax County schools are also required to complete an access and opportunity goal as part of their School Innovation and Improvement Plan (SIIP) and can also capture additional goals. These are shown below.
Access & Opportunity End of Year SMARTR Outcome Goal: 100% of K-6 students will engage in and respond to the AAP content curriculum at least twice a quarter, totaling eight times throughout the year. Strategy 1 All K-6 students will access AAP curriculum at least twice per quarter to extend curriculum challenges, as provided in the Access to Rigor guides supported by AAP.
