  Strategic Plan

Our Voices, Our Future: Fairfax County Public Schools is launching the engagement phase that will help us develop our brand new Strategic Plan

During her Community Conversations listening tour in each high school pyramid, Superintendent Michelle Reid has heard from many of you about your hopes and aspirations for our students. That feedback will become part of our proactive strategic plan that will serve as our North Star—or guide—for the future.

Starting in October, we will be inviting the entire FCPS community to engage in building our shared future. This includes hearing from our parents and caregivers, students, and broader community, as well as surveying students in grades three and above. You will have an opportunity to have your voice heard in one of many sessions (both in-person and virtual) during November and December. We encourage you to join us in this journey by actively participating in the conversation.

For a more detailed overview, visit FCPS’ Strategic Planning webpage.

Nuestras voces, Nuestro Futuro

You may provide feedback to the Virginia Department of Education on the new drafted policy. Social and Emotional Learning Activities and Screener

Students in grades K-2 will no longer participate in the Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) screener. Instead, the Child Behavior Rating Scale administered in kindergarten, existing attendance, and behavior data will be used to determine necessary social emotional instruction and supports. School teams will use these measures alongside family input, as they develop their understanding of students’ needs and strategies to support them. Students in grades 3-12 will be able to participate in the SEL screener. School teams and families use this information to develop positive school cultures and support students academically and personally. This year, students will participate in the screener in the fall (October/November) and spring (March). Parents are able to opt their child out of taking the SEL screener. Read more about SEL and signature practices online.

Supporting Your Child’s Mental Health

Identifying whether your child’s behaviors are normal or a warning sign of a mental health concern can be difficult. Talk to your child and pay attention to their actions. Also, consider these warning signs:

  • Increased irritability, hyperactivity, energy, and/or aggressive behavior.
  • Excessive sadness, hopelessness, or worries.
  • Loss of appetite, or significant weight gain or loss.
  • Lack of sleep, or too much sleep.
  • A decline in grades, school avoidance, or attendance concerns.
  • Alcohol or drug use.
  • Withdrawal from activities and/or friends and family.
  • Thoughts of harming themselves or others.

If you notice any of these warning signs or feel your child may be experiencing a mental health challenge, help is available. All Fairfax County public schools have at least one school counselor, school psychologist, and school social worker.

School Counselor: Jackye Toth

School Counselor: Leyla Mastroianni

School Social Worker: Laurel Hanlon

School Psychologist: Meghan Bogue

Please reach out to one of these staff members to discuss your concerns and identify resources. Call your school or visit their website for staff members’ contact information. Find additional information to support your child’s wellness on FCPS’ website.

If you or someone you care about is experiencing a mental health crisis such as thoughts of harm to self or others, please take action:

  • Text NEEDHELP to 85511 for the CrisisLink hotline or call them at 703-527-4077.
  • Chat online with a specialist.
  • Go to the nearest emergency room or contact the Sharon Bulova Center for Community Health Emergency Services at 703-573-5679.
  • Call 911.

Terra Centre Families,

It's been another great week at Terra Centre and it is hard to believe that we are quickly approaching the halfway mark of the first quarter!

We have successfully completed all of our required beginning of the year safety drills and our students have done an excellent job following all the procedures.

As the weather begins to shift and daylight hours gets shorter, we are thankful that we have had some clear skies at recess before the cold days of winter begin to set in. This is a great time to send your child to school with layers since the weather can be a little cooler in the morning and warmer in the afternoons.

2021-22 Fairfax County Youth Survey

The Fairfax County School Board and the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors work together to administer the Fairfax County Youth Survey. The county has posted the results for the 2021 survey

The survey is given to all students in grades 6, 8, 10, and 12 each fall. It provides a wealth of information about a variety of topics related to our youth that influence their physical and mental well being, from sleep and nutritional habits to substance abuse behaviors to symptoms of depression and suicidal thoughts.

The results provide a snapshot of our youth in Fairfax County but also serve as a barometer of our own effectiveness as a community in fostering healthy choices in our young people. Data from the Fairfax County Youth Survey is used as a measurement tool in the FCPS Strategic Plan Goal 2 - Caring Culture - Healthy Life Choices.

The survey is anonymous and voluntary. Visit our website for more information on the upcoming Fairfax County Youth Survey.

Family Engagement Survey Results
  • FCPS administered its second Family Engagement Survey in the 2021-22 school year to better recognize, understand, respect, and address family strengths and needs in our school communities. Key findings include:
  • 91% responded that “My child feels safe at school.”
  • 90% feel their school welcomes families of different backgrounds and cultures.
  • 90% feel the information provided by my child’s school is easy to understand.
  • 89% feel welcome at my child’s school.
  • 89% feel their school is safe.

The survey was open from March 13-April 10 and was available in 10 languages. All families with students in preK through 12th grade were invited to participate. View survey

September is Attendance Awareness Month. Some of the ways parents can help their children create healthy routines and a habit of getting to school on time every day include:

  • Set a regular bedtime and morning routine. (Need help? Download this checklist in English or Spanish.)
  • Lay out clothes and pack backpacks the night before.
  • If your child seems anxious about going to school, talk to teachers, school counselors, or other parents for advice on how to make them feel comfortable and excited about learning.
  • Develop back-up plans for getting to school if something comes up. Call on a family member, a neighbor, or another parent.
  • When possible, avoid medical appointments or extended trips when school is in session.

Take a look at the FCPS Calendar:

  • Ensure that any trips that you have planned for the school year are on weekends and school holidays.  Every day of learning is a day toward success.
  • If your child needs to miss school because of an illness or appointment, you must report the absence to the school.  You may submit information via [email protected] or 703-249-1414.  We appreciate your collaboration in scheduling appointments outside of school hours, when possible.
  • If you know in advance that your child will miss school, please complete and submit the Prearranged Absence Form Elementary Prearranged Absence form.  Forms must be submitted in advance to allow adequate time for administrative review.  When planning trips, please keep in mind that absences add up quickly, and students who are absent 10 percent of the school year, or just two days per month, are considered “chronically absent.”

DID YOU KNOW?

  • Students should miss no more than nine days of school each year to stay engaged, successful, and on track to graduation.
  • Absences can be a sign that a student is losing interest in school, struggling with school work, dealing with a bully, or facing some other potentially serious difficulty.
  • By 6th grade, absenteeism (defined as missing 18 days per school year) is one of three signs that a student may drop out of high school.
  • By 9th grade, regular and high attendance is a better predictor of graduation rates than 8th grade test scores.
  • Missing 10 percent, or about 18 days, of the school year can drastically affect a student’s academic success.
  • Students can be chronically absent even if they only miss a day or two every few weeks.
  • Attendance is an important life skill that will help your child graduate from college and keep a job

Friday, Sept, 2, and Monday, Sept. 5, are Labor Day holidays for all FCPS employees and students. We hope everyone takes the long weekend to celebrate a strong start to the school year and enjoy time with family and friends. See the complete 2022-23 school year calendar.

How to Receive FCPS Messages in Other Languages

FCPS This Week is distributed in other languages to parents/guardians who have filled out the Home Language Survey form and selected a language supported by FCPS as their preferred language for communication. Home Language Survey forms are available in the following languages: Amharic | Arabic (العربية) | Chinese (中文) | Farsi (فارسی) | Korean (한국어) | Spanish (español) | Urdu (اردو) | Vietnamese (Tiếng Việt).

Learn more about other communications that are translated.

Anonymous Tip Line Puts Safety First

If you or your child have concerns or information relating to feeling unsafe in any way at school, the FCPS Office of Safety and Security has a safety tip line that you can access anonymously online, by text (888-777; Keyword TIP FCPS), or by phone (571-423-2020).

If your tip is an emergency and immediate assistance is necessary, please dial 911.

Students, staff, and community members should report school safety issues such as threats, unsafe or dangerous situations, illegal drug activity, theft, gang activity, the existence of weapons, vandalism, and concerns about student wellness. Tip line users may identify themselves or remain anonymous. Concerns that do not impact the safety of our schools—concerns or information about programs, regulations, or policies—can be sent to the FCPS ombudsman online, at 571-423-4014, or [email protected]

Understanding the Dangers of Opioid Use

In Northern Virginia, the opioid epidemic continues to impact communities including young adults, and sometimes school-age children. Tragically, this can lead to devastating outcomes. There are three things you can do now, to support student wellness and increase understanding of the dangers of opioids and fentanyl:

  • Talk with children and loved ones in your life about the dangers of drug use, especially opioids. For more information, tips on how to recognize and prevent substance abuse, and available support services, watch this webinar.
  • Safely store and dispose of medications to prevent drug misuse.
  • Sign up for a Virtual REVIVE! training class to learn how to recognize the signs and symptoms of opioid overdose and administer naloxone nasal spray to reverse an opioid overdose.

Learn more about the dangers of opioids and available resources on our website. Visit the Student Safety and Wellness webpage for more information about a variety of topics related to student wellbeing.

  • Resources:
Gun Safety and Safe Gun Storage

As you may be aware, lessons on gun safety are already built into our curriculum; however, it is critical that all parents and guardians talk to their children about the importance of gun safety and safe gun storage in your homes, and any homes that your children may visit.

Our website has resources for parents about gun safety as well as detailed information about FCPS safety and security practices in our buildings.

FCPS Student Device Expectations

The following are expectations for the use of digital devices issued by FCPS to students. Parents with questions should consult their school or classroom teacher.

  • PreK and Kindergarten: Students will receive iPads in the first few weeks of school. Teachers will communicate whether the iPads should be kept at school or used at home.
  • Grade 1 - 2: Students will be assigned a laptop that stays in school. If devices are needed for schoolwork or projects, or in the event of an extended absence or temporary closure, devices will be sent home with students so they can continue to participate in their classwork.
  • Grades 3 - 12: Students will be issued an FCPS laptop for school use. Your child will take their device home with them each day, and should come to school each day with their device fully charged.

Check the Student Device Responsible Use Guidelines for tips on charging and shutting down the device at home. All students are able to take their assigned FCPS device home in cases of expected inclement weather when virtual learning may be necessary.

COVID-19 Diagnostic Testing

COVID-19 diagnostic testing is available at no cost for all currently enrolled FCPS students on select dates throughout the year when transmission may be highest. Diagnostic testing is provided at designated times and locations for those who are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 or have been in close contact with someone diagnosed with COVID-19.

  • Testing will be available September 6-8 and 12-14. Visit the testing website for information on locations and how to register for an appointment.

Greetings TCES community!

I hope you all had an awesome first week back at school! This email just gives a periodic update on what's going on with your Terra Centre PTA.

If you're new to the PTA, you'll see that we do a lot of fundraising and events throughout the year, including our famous Pumpkin Drop, Fun Fair, Variety Show, and more! We also handle a number of after-school clubs. The proceeds of our fundraising go to our programs, supplies for teachers, and more.

As of this moment, we're up to 141 members of the PTA, including 28 teachers & staff--which is already higher than we had last year! If you haven't already, you can sign-up here.

  • We are currently organizing room parents (these are a great resource and help organize events and parties). If you are interested in being a room parent and haven't already completed our volunteer form, please email your child's teacher to let them know you're interested.
  • Based on your feedback, we've pushed our next PTA Membership Meeting to Tuesday, September 27th at 7:30pm. We'll vote on our budget for the year and talk about upcoming events and clubs. You can join via Google Meet.
  • Terra Centre is hosting its own STEAM Night! Save the date for Thursday, December 6th (note that this has been rescheduled from late September, due to a scheduling conflict). Ms. Jewell has created a volunteer sign-up for those interested in hosting a STEAM-related station.
  • Clubs will start in October! Stay tuned here and on our Facebook page for updates. The fall clubs will include iCode, Hip Hop Dance, Challenge Island, and iCook. We need volunteers to help make these clubs run great; if you are interested, please email [email protected]. If you volunteer, your child gets to do the club for free! (Note that you will need to be available for each day the club meets)
  • Save the date for Friday, November 4 for our annual Pumpkin Drop! Email us if you'd like to get involved in the planning.

Have a great week!

Best,

Tom Dannan

Terra Centre Families,

We had a great first week back! Our students arrived with smiling faces and were excited to see new and old friends and meet their teachers. This week our focus has been building relationships, learning routines, having fun, and even conducting our first fire drill of the school year!

Our theme this year is "Word Collectors", inspired by author Peter H. Reynolds' book  "The Word Collector".  At our back to school kick off, staff shared their stories by creating six word memoirs and students are adding to our school wide art installation by painting rocks with their word on it . These will be added to the rock garden in the front of the school!

The power of words is what brings our community together and reinforces our belief that at Terra Centre we will build meaningful relationships within our school community through collaboration and communication with the goal of supporting, including, and giving access to all students.

As a reminder, school is closed for the labor day holiday from Friday, September 2nd to Monday, September 5th.

DID YOU KNOW?

  •   Starting in kindergarten, too many absences can cause children to fall behind in school.
  •   Missing 10 percent (or about 2 days per month) can make it harder to learn to read.
  •   Students can still fall behind if they miss just a day every few weeks.
  •   Being late to school may lead to poor attendance.
  •   Absences can affect the whole classroom if the teacher has to slow down learning to help children catch up.

WHAT YOU CAN DO

  •   Set a regular bed time and morning routine.
  •   Lay out clothes and pack backpacks the night before.
  •   Find out what day school starts and make sure your child has the required shots.
  •   Introduce your child to her teachers and classmates before school starts to help her transition.
  •   Don’t let your child stay home unless she is truly sick. Keep in mind complaints of a stomachache or headache can be a sign of anxiety and not a reason to stay home.
  •   If your child seems anxious about going to school, talk to teachers, school counselors, or other parents for advice on how to make her feel comfortable and excited about learning.
  •   Develop back-up plans for getting to school if something comes up. Call on a family member, a neighbor, or another parent.
  •   Avoid medical appointments and extended trips when school is in session.

Safety Drills During the School Year

Keeping students and staff safe is a priority for all of us. Each school has an emergency preparedness plan to respond to incidents such as fires and tornadoes. Schools are required by state law to practice emergency drills, including lockdown drills, each year. Schools are required to notify parents and guardians at least 24 hours before a school conducts a lockdown drill. However, schools are not required to give the specific date and time of the drill in advance. The first lockdown drill of the school year must take place within the first 20 days of school. Preschool and kindergarten students are exempt from practicing the first lockdown drill. Your child may come home and talk about their experience during the drill. We encourage you to talk with your child about the importance of being prepared for emergencies. Here are some helpful tips for families to use to support their students before and after school lockdown drillsWorking together, we create a safe, secure environment for students to learn and grow in our schools.

Sign and Return Student Rights & Responsibilities

We are extremely happy to have your child in our school with us this year!

FCPS’ updated Student Rights & Responsibility booklet is now available online and in the ParentVue section of the Student Information System (SIS). The SR&R booklet explains expectations for student behavior, and adult responses to enhance school safety and to create a fair, equitable, and supportive school environment.

Each year, we ask parents to review, sign, and return the SR&R to their child’s school. In ParentVue, you may now download and digitally sign the SR&R. Every parent/guardian with a ParentVUE account will see the SR&R upon login to ParentVUE until the SR&R acknowledgement has been completed.

Once you log on, you will see the following message:

Your name in the digital signature box must match the parent/guardian’s first and last name in SIS exactly before the signature will be accepted.

Please take a moment to log into ParentVue in your child’s SIS account to access the SR&R. Signatures are due by September 30, 2022.

Please contact us if you are having difficulty accessing the booklet.

Lightspeed Parent Report on Child’s Device Activity

FCPS has tools to help parents and guardians know more about their child’s activity on any FCPS device. These tools are provided by Lightspeed, our internet content filtering service, at no cost to families. You may sign up for a weekly Parent Report, which will provide a list of the top sites your child visited. If you want more detailed information, sign up for the Internet Use Parent portal and log-in anytime to see more detail about your child’s browsing and “pause” access to the internet during non-school hours. Find out more and sign up for these services on our website.

Annual Notice of Survey, Records, Curriculum, Privacy, and Related Rights

Please look for an email that you should have received August 18 in which FCPS shared the Annual Notice of Survey, Records, Curriculum, Privacy, and Related Rights and Opt-Out Forms (Annual Notice), FCPS provides explanations of the rights listed above as well as forms that may be used to exercise opt-out choices. Two versions of the Annual Notice are available—a grades K-8 version and a grades 9-12 version. If you have children at different grade levels, please read each applicable version of the Annual Notice because the notices and opt-out rights vary depending on the student’s grade level.

Get more information and view the 2022-23 Opt-Out Booklets.

SOL Test Results

The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) has announced 2021-22 Standards of Learning (SOL) data for school divisions that shows Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) has made steady progress towards a return to pre-pandemic levels.

FCPS annual pass rates for 2022 indicate that, while the road to recovery continues, FCPS students made promising gains in reading, mathematics, and science over the course of the 2022 school year. Read more about our plans for continued improvement of the SOL pass rates.

Text Messages for Parents

Make sure your cell phone numbers are listed in the parent/guardian contact information section on the emergency care information form for each of your children. Parents and guardians can view and update emergency contact information online using [email protected]

Text messages will be sent in the event of emergencies, delays or school closings, if buses are running more than 30 minutes late, if your student missed the morning attendance deadline, and for other important reminders.

Standard message and data charges may apply for text messages depending on your cell phone service plan. More about text messages is available online.

First Day of School Reminders

Terra Centre Families,

We are so excited for our students to return to school on Monday!  Our teachers and staff have worked hard to prepare, and we are looking forward to the 2022-2023 school year!  Special thanks to our custodial crew!  They have worked tirelessly to move furniture, clean classrooms, paint, wax floors, and maintain the grounds.

We look forward to working with you this year.  One school-wide focus will be to further enhance and strengthen our partnership and communication between school and home.  Terra Centre is a tight-knit community that offers amazing opportunities to students and families, and our success is grounded in the collaboration between our incredible staff and supportive families.

Thank you for attending our Back-to-School Fair to kick off the year!  It was a huge success thanks to our wonderful staff, PTA, and community organizations!  While you were here, you may have noticed that our electronic sign is scrolling outdated messages.  Unfortunately, it requires some work, and we are unable to update it until it’s repaired.  We apologize for the inconvenience and will continue to keep you updated through our weekly messages and website.  Additionally, if you were unable to attend our virtual Back-to-School Night yesterday, please visit our TCES Back-to-School Night webpage to view the grade level presentations and videos.

Below are some important reminders for the start of school.  It’s going to be an amazing year!  We’ll see you on Monday!

Rebecca Gidoni             Teresa Lewis

Principal                         Assistant Principal

Return to School Resources First Day of School Information
  • School hours:  8:40 – 3:25
  • It is recommended that your child come to school on the first day the same way he or she will typically be coming to school.
  • On the First Day of School, doors will open at 8:25 (usually 8:30).
  • Families are welcome to escort their child to class on the first day of school.
  • Attending family members will bring child to the classroom door and refrain from entering the classroom.
  • Please take pictures in advance of entering the school building.
  • Families must exit promptly by 8:40 when the tardy bell rings.
Share Your First Day of School Photos
  • FCPS parents, students, and staff members are invited to share their favorite pictures or videos from the first day of school on social media using the hashtags #Back2SchoolFCPS and #FirstDayFairfax.
  • FCPS will share some of the photos on the FCPS Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram pages.
Student Arrival-Dismissal-Transportation  Walkers

If your child will be walking to school, we encourage you to walk with him or her to ensure familiarity with the route.  Walkers must use designated paths or sidewalks.  There is a crossing guard on Marshall Pond.

  • Grades K-2 Walkers will enter the building at Door 5 (blacktop).
  • Grades 3-6 Walkers will enter the building at Door 4 (blacktop).
  • Students may enter the building at 8:30 am and proceed directly to their classroom.
  • Students will exit through the same doors in the afternoon.
  • Kindergarteners must be met by an adult at Door 5.
  • Dismissal begins at 3:25 pm.
Bus Riders

We recommend having your child ride the bus on the first day of school when extra provisions are in place to help students learn bus routines and bus numbers.

  • Bus stops and route information are available on ParentVUE.
  • For more information about bus transportation, including how to access the Bus Delay Notification System, visit the FCPS Transportation webpage.
  • Arrive at the bus stop 5 – 10 minutes early.
  • In the afternoon, buses will typically depart school at 3:30 p.m.
  • Kindergarten students must be met at the bus stop each afternoon by a parent, parent designee, or a responsible middle school or older sibling. That person must ask for the child by name at the door of the bus. Otherwise, the student will be returned to the main office at Terra Centre.

Please be patient as there continues to be a bus driver shortage and buses may be delayed.  Your patience and understanding as we make adjustments is appreciated. Find out more about bus routes on our website and download the Here Comes the Bus mobile app.

If you or someone you know has interest in becoming a bus driver for FCPS, now is a great time to come on board! FCPS is offering up to $3,000 in a signing bonus for new bus drivers who meet eligibility requirements and complete the new driver employment criteria. Find out more and apply today!

Kiss & Ride

All students in FCPS are either designated as bus riders or walkers.  Kiss & Ride is a courtesy service that we provide for parents.  Please follow the guidelines below if you choose to drive your child to and from school.

Please use the Kiss and Ride lane on Burke Centre Parkway, rather than neighborhood streets.  This helps to ensure the safety of all students, including our student walkers who are utilizing the paths and streets behind the school.

  • Kiss & Ride is open 8:25-8:40 in the morning and 3:25-3:40 in the afternoon.
  • All car riders must be dropped off and picked up in the Kiss & Ride lane during arrival/dismissal. The main parking lot is only open to staff 8:20-8:40 and 3:10-3:30.
  • If you arrive late and Kiss & Ride is closed, you must park in the main parking lot and come to the main office.
  • When entering Kiss & Ride, please follow Marshall Pond Road to Pond Spice Lane to Burke Centre Parkway and follow the entire loop to exit on to Burke Centre Parkway.  Please avoid U-turns at the intersection of Pond Spice Lane and Burke Centre Parkway.
Changes in Dismissal

Your child’s education is very important to us. Please be mindful of late arrivals and early departures during the school day. If you need to pick up your child for any reason before dismissal, please do so by 3:00 pm.

Please use the Pick-Up Patrol app for changes, which notifies front office staff and your child’s teacher.  Check for an email to register for the app.

Transportation/Pick Up Patrol Sign Up

As we welcome students back to Terra Centre ES, we want to ensure the safe arrival and departure of each child. All families should have received an email/text message/phone call from Transportation outlining their child's transportation to/from school (either walker/bus rider). We encourage all families to use the mode of transportation designated by the Transportation department.

Terra Centre ES has a courtesy area called Kiss & Ride (at our side entrance off Burke Centre Pkwy), which is designed as a safe place for adults in private vehicles to load and unload children. Adults must remain in the vehicle and students must enter and exit the vehicle on the right side, closest to the curb, as this ensures we will be able to provide an efficient and safe transfer of children.

  • Be on the lookout for an email from Pick-Up Patrol. Please follow directions to register for the app.  We will use this for daily dismissal and dismissal changes.
  • Students may enter the building at 8:30 a.m.
  • Kiss n’ Ride: You may drop off at Door 8, beginning at 8:25 AM.
  • Bus stops and route information are available on ParentVUE.
2022 Student Rights & Responsibilities Includes Cell Phone Usage Update

The Student Rights and Responsibilities document (SR&R) explains expectations for student behavior and adult responses to enhance school safety and to create a fair, equitable, and supportive school environment. Read the Letter from the Superintendent on the 2022-23 Student Rights and Responsibilities: A Guide for Families. Key changes to the document for the 2022-23 school year include:

  • Adding rights to protect citizenship and immigration status from unauthorized sharing.
  • Changes to FCPS’ Acceptable Use Policy Regulation for Technology.
  • A new section on cell phones.

The new section on cell phones prohibits cell phone use in classrooms. We recognize that this new policy will be a shift for many students and families this year, but research shows that managing phone use during class time will support students’ attention and ability to fully engage in their learning. Schools are partnering with parents to have students understand the importance of putting their phones away to minimize distractions during class.

  • Students in K-8 must keep phones silenced and in backpacks for the duration of the school day unless there is a medical need or emergency, or teachers have allowed the usage of cell phones for instructional activities where they are the most appropriate tool. Cell phones may only be used on campus before and after school. (Except in secondary schools where students in grades 7 and 8 may use phones during passing periods.

If a parent or guardian believes their child requires access to a personally owned device(s) as an accommodation, they should contact child’s school team—i.e., 504 Committee, Individualized Education Program (IEP) Team, English Language Committee, Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) Team—to schedule a meeting to have their request considered.

Parents should talk to their child(ren) before the start of the school year about these expectations for this upcoming school year. Families may also review the parental controls available for all iPhone and Android users. More information about the SR&R is available online.

Trust Policy

You may have heard that the Fairfax County School Board approved a Trust Policy that solidifies our commitment to foster a caring culture and strives to provide a safe, welcoming, and inclusive space for all students and families.

This policy aligns with Fairfax County’s Public Trust and Confidentiality Policy to ensure that FCPS students and families can access FCPS benefits and services without fear that information will be disclosed, directly or indirectly, to federal immigration officials.

The school division is already performing much of the work referenced in the Trust Policy. The policy, along with the upcoming regulation, will serve to solidify our efforts, so all FCPS staff, students, and families have a common understanding of the policy.

Every FCPS employee plays an important part in carrying out the Trust Policy and will demonstrate cultural responsiveness in supporting families, students, and other staff by protecting the privacy of personally identifiable information (PII) of students and families. Employees will follow a clear, standardized process for requesting, accessing, or disclosing prohibited personal information as outlined in FCPS Regulations 2202 and 4220.

Additional information is available in multiple languages on FCPS’ Trust Policy webpage. Please email FCPS’ Office of Professional Learning and Equity, [email protected], with questions about the policy.

Terra Centre Families,

As we begin to look ahead to the 2022-23 school year, I encourage everyone to Be Wise, Immunize! Immunizations are required for public school entry and help keep children protected from many diseases. Many children missed their well check-ups and their recommended childhood immunizations during recent years of disruptions from COVID-19. It is critical to catch up now to keep children healthy and protect them from serious diseases.

We encourage you to check with your healthcare provider to make sure your child is up to date on required immunizations for the 2022-23 school year as soon as possible. If your child needs a vaccine to complete their records, you can make an appointment with your healthcare provider or visit the Fairfax County Health Department website for a schedule of child immunization clinics.

Remember to request documentation of your child’s immunizations and bring that to Terra Centre as soon as possible. If you have any questions, please contact us at 703-249-1400.

Summer Office Hours

Terra Centre welcomes families to contact the office as needed this summer. We have limited staff in the office and will have reduced hours. The Terra Centre office will be open from 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM every Monday - Friday. We will also respond to phone messages as they are received.  You can contact the front office at 703-249-1400.

Free and Reduced-Price Meal Applications/ Summer Meals

Families must submit an application and be approved to be eligible for free and reduced price meals for SY 22-23. For the past two years, the federal government has provided no-cost meals to all public school students without the need to complete the annual Free and Reduced-Price Meal application. However, the extension of the no-cost meals benefit to all students is expected to expire at the end of this school year.

You are encouraged to submit the Free and Reduced-Price Meal application prior to the first day of the 22-23 school year. The online application will be available later this summer. Watch your email and our website for more information. Learn more about the Free and Reduced-Price Meal program online.

No-cost summer meals will be served at all FCPS summer school locations this year. Please visit the FCPS website for updated information during the summer.

Summer Resources

We would like to share some resources to help students and families have a fun, safe, and healthy summer!  The FCPS Summer Resources webpage will be updated throughout the summer months.

Summer Meal Kits

Summer meal kits will be offered on Tuesdays at several sites through August 9. Meal kits contain seven days of breakfast and lunch items packed in bulk. All meals are available at no-cost to FCPS students and children 18 years of age and under. Visit our Meals for Students website for more details on pick up locations and times.
