In order to help interpret SOL results for parents, the Virginia Department of Education has released new Standards of Learning Growth Parent Reports for families of students who took grade 3-8 SOL math and reading tests this spring.

The Growth Parent Report ties together scores from fall and winter Virginia Growth Assessments (VGA) with the student’s current spring SOL results to show their trend in academic progress this year.

Our PTA Variety Show was a huge hit! We have so many talented students and staff!

TC Families,

As we begin planning for the upcoming school year, our staff collaborates regarding student placements.  A variety of factors such as student personalities, friendships, and academic abilities are considered as we create our new classes.  Other factors impacting the decision-making process of student class assignments are new student enrollments and teachers moving to a new assignment.

Terra Centre families may assist in this process by sharing insights. Please note the following when providing information. We do not accept requests for specific teachers for the upcoming grade placement.  This includes hints that reference specific teachers.  We cannot guarantee friend requests nor exceptions for other students whereby there may be a conflict. We do our best to create a positive learning year for your child.

Please provide your input by submitting this form as it will ensure we have your request.  Please do not email us additional information.  Completion of the form is optional. However, the deadline for any correspondence is May 31st at 4 PM. Thank you for your input.

Have a great weekend!

5th graders in Mrs. Fairchild's class created nature assemblages inspired by artist Andy Goldsworthy to celebrate Earth Day!

TC Families,

This week, we celebrated Earth Week, and each day there was a different focus on environmental stewardship. Special thanks to Ms. Grove, our Get2Green lead. The Eco-Club students and the entire school have worked hard all year on various initiatives to reduce, reuse, and recycle. Ms. Grove is also facilitating the 4-H Embryology Project at Terra Centre. Very soon we will have eggs hatching all over the school!

We have several things happening next week:

  • SOL testing begins Wednesday, May 1, for students in grades 3-6. Students should get a good night's sleep, eat a healthy breakfast, and be on time to school. Please see below for the complete SOL testing schedule.
  • The PTA Variety Show is Thursday, May 2, at 6:30 in the Terra Centre cafeteria.
  • Friday, May 3, is a teacher workday and there is no school for students.

Please scroll down for important information and upcoming events.

Have a great weekend!

Get more information about the screener on the Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener webpage. For support in understanding your individual student’s results or ideas on how to support them at home, please review the Family Guide or contact your student’s [teacher or counselor].

New Regulation on Meditation and Silent Reflection Spaces

FCPS has developed Regulation 1502 to ensure all students and staff have reasonable accommodation and access to meditation and silent reflection spaces within the school division. The regulation provides guidance for schools on how to manage requests for silent reflection during instructional and non-instructional time, and for students to leave school for religious activities.

These spaces are for individuals to engage in prayer, meditation, or silent reflection, inclusive of their religious or non-religious beliefs. Parents/caregivers must provide written permission for students requesting to miss instructional time on a regular basis. Families are encouraged to contact their child's teacher regarding accommodations. View Regulation 1502. Visit FCPS' Religious Accommodations in Schools for Students webpage for more information.
